Well lets see. The last time I worked on my blog was 2013. Wow That is way too long. I haven't done anything crafty like I used to in a long while. I got married in 2013 which was very distracting. Continued with school and the assignments are keeping me very busy. Got a promotion at work now I work longer hours. I moved to another apartment.....so many distractions..... and sadly my creative side suffered. But I couldn't quiet it any longer.... the creative monster must be satisfied!
I am Gearing up for a Pottery Class that stars April 9th. This is my second class and I am really excited because the First one I did was just amazing. The teacher was very nice and work find the time to run around to everyone giving them personal advise on the piece they were working on. I got a lot out of that class and I love working with clay because of it.... Many thanks to Teacher Ms. Kate Leach
So now I signed up for another class. I am now preparing a list of projects to work on. So Far I have Kitchen Tablet Rest, Phone Rest, Kitchen Spoon Rest, Cat mug , candle holder I broke, flower pots, soap dish, pottery stamps.
I finished setting up my little corner area for creating... its movable so I can push it out of the way if I need to. I have to go over the beginner videos cause I am very out of practice. A little practice each day goes a long way to keep your skills up. So I will try to practice more and not neglect. Find some balance with the things I have to do and the things I want to do. So its back to basics. I had an idea to post the videos I found helpful here. Also I had to cut my nails they were stabbing my clay..... :( .... awww
Ok so ....pottery class is almost here. I's excited. So today I focused on making some tools. I had that problem in my last class where I had an idea but just did have anything to help me create it also sometimes we had to share so decided to make some of my own to get better prepared.
Been doing research...... which is really just me watching youtube videos before bed....lol I had a long week of work and school assignments so not much to report. I am posting the videos that I find interesting
Over the weekend I made a personal stamp. It was a learning experience and took many tries to get right. Mistake 1. Made the stamp with exactly how I wanted it - result:- I pressed it against the clay and it came out backwards ...LOL. I agree that is a DUH! moment. I cant write my name backwards cause I never practiced it ... so ... yea. I settled for initials instead. Mistake 2...used a brittle polymer play to make the stamp and so pressing against real clay it crumbled also noticed that the finer details in my stamp just broke off......a GRRRRR! moment. Finally I just decided to used a Mold to help me....so here is how it finally played out.
Beginner stamp 1. Made a back-ways stamp - with little snakes - making sure that the details were not too fine but average 2. Pressed stamp into a mold (first time trying this mold thing - very pleased) 3. Pressed Premo Sculpy Clay into mold and built and shaped made a stamp handle 4. Baked my clay stamp I am happy with they way that method turned out. Over this week I will refine step one and actually plan and carve something nice
Also over the weekend I practiced making a cylinder from YouTube videos with minor success...very minor.... I don't know when to stop so I got them up .. and then broke them. To take my mind off that disaster I YouTubed how to make a bowl techniques I then tried ....so much easier that a cylinder! OMG! ... however broke those too. This week I hope to learn my limits: Aim! A standing Cylinder and a Standing bowl ...or I'll never get to practice trimming ....lol
2016 and most of 2017 was an adjustment. My husband moved in with me. Weird thing to say ...lol he lived in USA and I lived in Canada and in 2016 March we got the OK from Canada immigration to plan our moving in together adventure. Now that we are relatively used to living together and have not killed each other I'm back to a regular routine. So here we go :)
